On 29th and 30th July 2016 27 people took part in a cycle ride named "Tour De Farrier" coast to coast from the West coast of England (Seascale) to the east coast (Whitby) covering 150 miles in two days to raise money for The Farriers Foundation.
This difficult route took the group of cyclists up and down some of the steepest climbs in England including Hard Knott pass and Wrynose pass. Both in Cumbria. All made it safely to the destination in Whitby where a much deserved evening of food and entertainment rewarded them.
To date approximately £9,000 has been raised for the Farriers Foundation directly from Tour De Farrier. We would like to thank all those who took part in the ride including support crews who drove back up vehicles and helpers. Danny Elliot who organised this event put in a huge amount of time and effort to ensure it ran smoothly. Thanks to our sponsors Mustad, Handmade Shoes, Silverback Chaps, Black Swan Insurance and Jim Blurton. The generous support of our sponsors made the event a great success.
The Farriers Foundation has been set up to provide financial and practical support to farriers, and their families, in times of injury or illness. This dedicated, independent charity for farriers is run by farriers and their families to ensure monies raised by fundraising activities remains within our industry and utilised where it is needed most.
“The Farriers Foundation is a charitable incorporated organisation with the aim of providing relief of financial hardship amongst farriers or retired farriers and their dependants who, by virtue of illness or premature retirement or any other reason, have need of such assistance.”
Please sponsor or donate if you can, to help us make a difference and help those who need assistance from The Farriers Foundation.
We would love to hear from anyone that would like to organise an event - no matter what size! Please do get in touch!
